This album celebrates recovery from domestic violence and the will and determination it takes to recover from such abuse. I'm working with Mike McCarthy here in Manuka Studios in Orewa, New Zealand.

For those of you with connections to Domestic Violence Shelters, Hospitals, Friends or Family that are in need of support in getting out of a bad situation, please forward this onto them. I remember a time in my life when something as simple as a television program made ALL the difference to me. Music is just as powerful. Thanks all. Lori

(ugh) Yeah you though you had broken my will to survive, and it is true that I was barely alive, but those days are gone for I know what you've done adn you have no power over me. Cause...

2. In Spite of You
You saw me on the street beggin for some food, you must have laughed to yourself in your superior mood. You always liked to think that your religion made you right, I never fit into that mold so you said I deserved my plight. What you did not know was that I was saving myself. Livin on the street is better than livin’ in your hell, I’d rather be alone eatin’ with the rats than bein in your life, you’ve shown me you don’t care how I am as long as it “looks” right. So now I’m here today stakin’ my claim, I’m taking back what’s mine and you should be ashamed.
CHORUS
In spite of you, I’m strong, you couldn’t be more wrong, In spite of you, I’m back, so just bring it on, You see I’m through with you and listening to your lies, you’re nothing short of weak, and now I’ve realized that I am strong, I’m here, I’m takin’ my life in to my hands, I’m free, I’m alive…in spite of you.
Yeah, I’m sure you thought that last time was the last time you’d see me. You’d hope I’d fade away or die just to keep you clean, but what you don’t know and what you can’t control, is what I know about me, and I can promise you that I’m not goin’ down easily. You see, I’ve starved, I’ve even lost my car, I’ve lived with nothin’ at all, but now I know I can fight, I’m better than you all. So look at me look where I am and take a look at yourself I’m being heard, I’m bein’ loved, I’ve finally found myself!
BRIDGE
In spite of you, I always knew that I’d break free someday, you’d hear me on the radio and I would finally say, what you did to me was nothing short of inhumane, you killed my soul, but now I’m back to set the record strait!
CHORUS…end Copyright Lori Crandall/2005
VS 1.
There are days that I remember your eyes, filled with rage as you looked at me. I thought your anger was somehow my fault, and then…I murdered myself. I thought I must have been nothing, but those days are gone, I let go of you and given you back your thorns, and now I finally see, that there’s a Warrior in me!
CHORUS
Everything I am
Everything I know
Everything I see
Everything I’ll be is Inside of Me, Yeah…
Every time I cry
Every time I scream
Every time I love
Every time I sing…Its inside, yeah it’s inside inside of me.
Yeah, you gave me your worst, and I fought with my best, and the Warrior, yeah this Warrior she lives on in me!
Yes, you may have broke me. But all you showed me, was just how strong I am the warrior that is me. Yes, you may have cut me, but all that you taught me to see, is that my power to thrive and my will and my drive, and my heart as my guide, will live on eternally. Free to fly, with this Warrior in me!
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Now I never thought I could find myself, I could free myself! I always thought I’d be in this pain again and again, locked in myself, chained to these walls, never again to feel any love at all!! But the Warrior, she freed me!
FINAL CHORUS
Everything I am
Everything I know
Everything I see
Everything I’ll be is Inside of Me, Yeah…
Every time I cry
Every time I scream
Every time I love
Every time I sing…It’s inside, yeah it’s inside inside of me.
No, I never thought I could find myself, I would free myself, I fought you on this battleground, Now I was lost now I’m found, Yeah, you gave me your worst, and I fought with my best, and the Warrior, yeah this Warrior, she lives on in me! Yes, this warrior…is ME! Copyright Lori Crandall/2005
4. Too Old For My Time
VS 1
A young woman sits alone on the couch silent as she hears a familiar scene. The sounds are the same, the voices haven’t changed and she wished it was all just a dream. Her whole life has been this way, the shouting the tantrums, the pain, but there’s been no way out and small children to feed so she’s had to hide all her dreams. And somewhere inside herself she screams.
CHORUS
I look so old and feel even older was I ever really a child? Oh I’ve been my own mother since the day that I was born and sometimes I just wish that I could die. Oh my heart’s filled with pain are they fighting again, oh I wonder who will win this time? But I have to keep going for what else can I do, but I’m feeling too old for my time.
VS 2
She trudges on until high school is done and then sees she has no where to go. She’s spent all her time surviving her home that she’s had no time to prepare for her life. . Oh, where do I go, what do I do, College what is that? All I’ve ever known is mothering and work and I have no idea what to become. And with tears in her eyes, she silently cries…
CHORUS
BRIDGE
She’s always hoped that her heart would heal from all of years of pain, but all she she still sees in her eyes that young girl traumatized and cries as she recognizes….
I look so old, and I feel even older, was I ever really a child? (END) Copyright Lori Crandall/2005
5. Horror In Your Eyes
VS 1
Sitting alone on my bedroom floor, fighting back the pain from the beating he gave me just a moment before. I know he said he’d stop but I guess he lied, cause I’ve got a busted nose and and a bloody face to testify. I know I thought all was lost, yeah I thought you’d die, but the very next day I came walking way and you suddenly came alive…you see…I was hiding my face and my swollen and you ran to me and you held me close and I started to cry, and slowly you looked at me and said…
Chorus
I saw the horror in your eyes, I felt the pain you felt inside and now I scream to tell the world just what he did to you know that I saw it too, I felt the blows as they pierced you, my body shakes and my soul is tired, how could he do this to you?
VS 2
Now I’ve gotta move fast, now I’ve gotta get out because of you I finally see that I am worth it now. I’ve got no money, see he took that too, but I’ve got my legs, by brain and now my courage too. Then you took me in, and you cleaned all my wounds, and gave me a home some love and my dignity too. I’m alive because of you!! When you said…
Chorus
Bridge:
But why did you do this, why did you care? Why’d you come back for me don’t you know I was as good as dead? You see nobody cared, yeah they heard my screams, but they turned their backs, and left me alone to live this fatal dream. And as I looked in your eyes, I saw a glimpse of pain and could see you were just like me when you said:
Final Chorus:
I saw the horror in your eyes, I felt the pain you felt in side and now I scream to tell the world just what they did to you know that I saw it too, I felt the blows as they pierced you, and now you ask me how I knew, because he did it to me too. Copyright Lori Crandall/2005
